Judith Garfield

With ECH since 1998, Judith is responsible for the organisation's core work programme. She has trained over 90 community groups in oral history and has developed an oral history training programme and an RQF (Regulated Qualifications Framework) qualification for young people in Cultural Heritage.

Under her leadership, Judith manages an oral history archive of over 4,000+ recordings, and 50,000 photographs giving ordinary people a voice and preserving their stories for future generations. She has developed and managed over 90 National Lottery Heritage Fund projects, working with a diverse range of community groups manuy focusing on social action, place and transfromation. Most recently, she has delivered a major NLHF project, creating an interactive DAMS (Digital Asset Management System) that makes these valuable community histories accessible to wider audiences.

Previous to joining ECH, Judith was a set designer and stage manager at Theatre Royal Stratford East, working with Mike Leigh. She was awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list 2012 for her work and her commitment to Community Heritage.
