James Kaguima
James Kaguima is a multi-award-winning social entrepreneur and community builder whose work bridges creativity, technology, and inclusive leadership. He is the founder of Skate Cabal, a multi-award-winning social enterprise that empowers communities through roller skating, fostering inclusivity, well-being, and social change. Skate Cabal delivers both intergenerational and youth focused programmes such as the Roller Skate Jam Academy and Skate Smart Academy and regularly collaborates with partners to engage communities in creative, civic, and cultural life. Central to Skate Cabal’s mission is addressing the lack of purpose-built spaces for roller skating compared to mainstream sports, by creating accessible, safe, and inclusive spaces that bring people together.
Alongside his entrepreneurial ventures, James is an active alumni of Elevate, the inclusive leadership collective based around Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the surrounding boroughs of East London (Newham, Hackney, Tower Hamlets, and Waltham Forest). He previously served as Chair and board member and also worked as a Project Officer for the Elevate Invest programme’s Elevate Fund, which provides financial support for young people, grassroots projects, and community organisations. Elevate plays a unique role in ensuring young people’s lived experiences shape decision-making in the Park and beyond, while helping communities access opportunities across creative, tech, and cultural industries.
Across all his projects, James is committed to designing inclusive systems and spaces that empower people to thrive. He is particularly passionate about creating pathways that connect creativity with skills, enterprise, and opportunity, ensuring that communities are not just participants but co-owners of their future.
