Co-founder and Chief Executive, Gasworks Dock Partnership
Simon Myers is the Co-founder and Chief Executive of the East London–based charity Gasworks Dock Partnership, which has led the transformation of Cody Dock into a thriving centre for urban ecology, arts, and heritage. Established in 2011, the charity was created to nurture more sustainable local development by engaging communities with the River Lea’s diverse ecology and rich heritage—at a pivotal time when London’s second river is undergoing rapid change, with up to 50,000 new homes planned over the next decade and the Lower Lea River being opened to the public for the first time in a generation.
With over 30 years’ experience in creative production across some of the UK’s leading arts and heritage organisations, Simon views the arts as a powerful catalyst for mobilising and inspiring communities to take an active role in shaping their environment. Living and working in Newham—an area that has historically seen lower-than-average engagement with arts and heritage—he is committed to promoting creative participation that is both accessible and sustainable.
Under his leadership, Cody Dock’s regeneration has engaged more than 20,000 local volunteers and now hosts a 300-seat visitor and arts venue, affordable creative studios, residential moorings, education spaces, a giant rolling bridge, award-winning public gardens, and a year-round programme of exhibitions and environmental activities attracting over 100,000 visitors annually.
